Disability Discrimination. Family and Medical Leave. Employment Discrimination. Benefits.
In 1998, I left a respected Atlanta firm to dedicate my practice to representing employees who had been subjected to discrimination in the workplace or whose contractual rights had been denied. Since then I have focused my practice on disability discrimination and the right to take and return from medical leave. I also continue to represent employees in cases of employment discrimination on the basis of age, national origin, race, religion and gender, to represent those who have been retaliated against for complaining about discrimination, and continue to assist employees in obtaining the wages and benefits to which they are entitled by contract or law.
In the area of disability discrimination law, I strive to provide my clients with the information they need to advocate for themselves in the workplace, to obtain the accommodations or medical leave they need to continue to be productive in the workplace, or alternatively to explore the benefits available to them should they be unable to continue to work in their current jobs.
I speak often and blog about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the interplay between employees' rights to reasonable accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act, to full time, intermittent and reduced hours leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act and about employees' rights and eligibility for benefits under short and long term disability policies under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and other provisions of Georgia and federal law.
I served on the Georgia Bar Labor & Employment Advisory Committee that provided input to the 11th Circuit Pattern Jury Instruction Committee with respect to revisions of Employment Related charges and co-chaired the Subcommittee revising the Americans with Disabilities Act instructions. I currently serve as Chair of the EEOC Liaison Committee and am a member of the Board and a past President of the Georgia affiliate of the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA-GA), a civil rights bar association made up of attorneys whose litigation practices advocate employee rights.
Prior to establishing my own office, I worked at Rogers & Hardin, LLP in its civil litigation department. I received my B.A. from Cornell University in 1983 and my J.D. with distinction from Emory University in 1987.
